About Southern Railway
The Southern Railway is headquartered is situated at Chennai Central, is one of the seventeen zones of Indian Railways. It is the earliest of the seventeen zones of the Indian Railways created in independent India. It was created on 14th April in the year 1951 by merging 3 state railways, namely, the Madras & Southern Mahratta Railway, the South Indian Railway Co., and the Mysore State Railway.
